Androgyny - Sasha Stéfan Art Images - PHOTO SET
androgynous: adjective
partly male and partly female in appearance; of indeterminate sex.
-The Oxford dictionary
I had the pleasure of partaking in a photo set put on by Sasha "Stéfan" and Jacqueline "Javs" Ann Cables and joining model Eileen Mello. The Initial idea proposed was glam, but the theme morphed into a discussion about androgyny and the blurring of gender lines.
VIDEO: Casey Leger - Male Models: The Female of the Species
Rather than completely reverse identities like drag or other contrasting of gender forms of bending, androgyny has the interesting ability to blend and blur the lines of sexual identity and shine in its subtlety. Androgyny can have the strange ability to represent both sexes while almost simultaneously doing away with both all together.
This was a great opportunity to not only explore gender and identity from a different perspective, but also a new experience in art; being the subject of a composition rather than filling the role of a painter or sculptor creating the piece. In no way do I have illusions of being a professional model, but I would like to continue experimenting being in front of the camera. Thank you again to my gracious collaborators: Sasha, Jacqueline, and Eileen.
Of course we had to include the obligatory "bathroom party" shots :P

Loki Rants - How would Loki really take over the world?
"we're not worthy, we're not worthy, we're not worthy..." |
Force and physical power are not really Loki's style. While his well known brother, Thor, will undoubtedly smash and hit his way to victory, "The One-with-the-Silver-Tongue" would use his deceit, charisma, and guile to get his way. In a way, he could use the things we love and like or even the things we hate, against us. Imagine someone who could influence the minds of major media CEOs, wag-the-dog better than any politician, and console the zealot masses better than any religious leader, all while throwing a smile to the crowd and having a good time. Step in our man, Loki...
Yeah, us, you doofus!! |
By taking advantage of humanity's lesser qualities and make us deny our better ideals he could have followers and would create a better asset to him than any army. Within an adjoining chaos he would in tandem manufacture (perhaps defacing Earh's heroes in the process), he could come forward to bring forth an "order" that only he could bring to us; a power we would willing give to him regardless how many punches, arrows, or blasters the Avengers have. Cause he would have our complete and utter compliant, submissive, loyalty... we would finally, KNEEL!!
Brings a bit to mind to me James Earl Jones' character, Thulsa Doom's, quote from Conan the Barbarian, "Steel isn't strong, boy. Flesh is stronger!!", but I digress...

I wonder what kind of health-care plan Loki has in mind... |
Loki up against the Avengers in the climax to "Acts of Vengance" |
This is not a solid idea nor by no means would it not have flaws or the need for alot of characters and background development. As a premise for something like a movie it would probably lack the typical things found on a Hollywood block-buster checklist (less CGI action and more drama and suspense). Viable for a large cast and drama driven T.V. series à la HBO? Perhaps. Or merely a revisiting of the themes and plot of "Acts of Vengeance" for a new comic story arc? Maybe. Or possibly none-of-the-above; though I do feel this would be great opportunity to take the usually pseudo-medieval/mythological Asardian's story more in line and relatable to our savvy modern world without so much the need for the costumes (though we do love them), capes, and alien armies; though what's a comic movie without the "pew-pews" and the "biff-pows"? But perhaps by exploring Loki within the scope of our contemporary world we can divulge deeper into our understandings regarding our own social, religious, and political institutions in how they can control or enrich our live for better or worse. Either way, if its wearing jet-black and covered in yellow and green, you can bet which team I'll be rooting for...
Evil never looked so suave (don't worry, horns may not be GQ, but we still love 'em) |

Silverhawks - Team Comp
Here's a comp of the individual illustrations of the Silverhawks I previously done. Scroll below for sketches and individual drawings.
"SilverHawks is an American animated television series developed by Rankin/Bass Productions and distributed by Lorimar-Telepictures in 1986. ...a team of human heroes in the 29th century who were given metal bodies and hawk wings to stop organized crime in the Galaxy of Limbo."

Quicksilver- Silverhawks
My illustration of Silverhawks from Silverhawks 80s cartoon.
"Quicksilver, formerly Lt. Jonathan Quick, was the former head of the Interplanetary Force H, and has quite a strong record for following commands. He was selected to lead the new team of SilverHawks into securing and safeguarding the Limbo Galaxy."

Silverhawks - Bluegrass
My illustration of Bluegrass from Silverhawks 80s cartoon.
"Bluegrass is a SilverHawk, a human law enforcement officer modified into a cyborg to withstand the effects of hyper travel through space. This grants him enhanced physical abilities, such as strength, agility, and speed. He has a hawk like face plate that covers his face. Unlike the other Silverhawks, he has no built in weapons or wings. Bluegrass is the pilot of the Maraj. Instead of built in lasers, he uses his guitar Hot Licks as both a pilot aid and as a weapon, as it fires blue energy notes. Sometimes he does command the Silverhawks"

Silverhawks - Steelwill
"Sergeants Will Hart is Emily Hart's twin brother. They are the "scientists" and "gearheads" of the team. They share an empathic bond in that when one sibling feels something, the other feels it as well. They are the only SilverHawks who have had real stainless steel hearts implanted during their transformation. He and his sister were the ones who created the four Fighting Hawks. His weapon-bird is Stronghold."

Silverhawks - Copper Kidd
"He is the youngest member of the SilverHawks, and the only one not a Terran (Earthling). A mathematical genius from the Planet of the Mimes, he "speaks" in mathematically calculated tones and whistles. His skin is azurine except the face that is white (similar to a mime). His armor is copper-colored but the wings have a silver-like appearance that is similar to those of the other winged team members. At the end of each episode, he was quizzed in several astronomy lessons by Bluegrass as training to become the reserve Miraj pilot (sure enough, he was called in to fill Bluegrass's shoes, albeit infrequently). A natural acrobat, the Copper Kidd has two razor-edged discs (one mounted on each hip) which he throws likeFrisbees. His weapon-bird is Mayday."
